> Dear WHY2025 team,
>
> I would like to propose an artwork for this years camp. I'm a Rotterdam-based cross media artist part of media lab .zip <https://zipspace.nl/>, working mainly on experimental location-based games.
> In the past, I often worked on artistic collaborations with Werner van der Zwan <https://ververwant.nl/index>, who is an artist working with robotics. For WHY2025, we propose a game called "Modding the Mirror World" that doubles as an interactive outdoor installation. Based on 868Mhz <https://project.xpub.nl/868-mhz/>, a game I developed that runs on a LoRA network and self-hosted server, accessible via a webapp, we propose to build a new, custom version for WHY2025. The game tells the story of a sleepwalker encountering the smart city net as a creature in her dreams. In her waking life, she notices mundane devices acting up, as if calling for her attention. She realizes the creature is real, but its scattered throughout the smart devices integrated in her surroundings.
>
> The game functions as a piece of interactive fiction, with each chapter of the storyline leading you to a new, physical location where a node of the LoRa network can be found. When a player interacts with the node (twisting a knob to the right number, entering a number code, etc.), a riddle is triggered on the player's phone. Solving it reveals clues to the next location.
>
> For this edition, Werner and I will collaborate to use his interactive trashcans <https://ververwant.nl/trash-talk> as containers for clues. We heard about dataklo, and we thought the trashcans could fit well! These trashcans will light up, emit sounds, and open only when unlocked digitally by a progressing player. The final trashcan will be full of little prices, and open when the game is completed (inspired by geocaching and loot boxes).

> So, timeline wise, we have two working pieces, the LoRa game and the moving trashcans, and will put them together in a new adaptation of the story with new puzzles. We would love to collaborate with anyone interested in thinking of puzzles as well! For building the circuits that host the clues and other physical game components, we would like to ask for a contribution of 500 euro.
>
> We are open to discuss and adapt the plan, and would love to explain our idea more in depth over a call.
> Groetjes from Rotterdam and we hope to hear from you soon!
