The bar for actively having to ask for approval may be low-ish from an organizational perspective, but from the perspective of a person with a tough financial situation it can still be experienced as rather high.

I'm sure there are reasons for not offering that non-interactive discount option this time, but asking for a discount and having to explain your sitution is hard. It involves shame and other emotions. Please don't downplay it. There are people who are not visiting MCH, because for them the current bar isn't quite low enough. The least we can and should do is acknowledge that.

The "friends" option is great to have, but I've found that people don't want to use it because of the mental stress induced by even talking about their financial situation. Also, the name suggests it's only available for incrowd.
