Hi all,
Two people, both new to our event, asked me today how the organization
was doing, because they were unable to compare it to previous large
quadrennial Dutch hacker events. Since "how are we doing?" might be an
FAQ, I thought it might be useful to repeat my reply on the mailinglist.
I don't see or know everything that's going on, but I feel we're doing a
very good job: 90% seems to be going according to plan or better. Of
course some mistakes are made and there will be things that we will
probably discuss for the next few years, hoping to improve on them for
the next camp. But overall, it seems visitors are having a great time,
and even more importantly: orga too!
It's been a lot of work, and there's still a challenging tear-down with
a tight schedule ahead of us, but given the state of things, I think
it's definitely worth everything we put into this event. Some
organizers, including myself, have met their limits, and had to take
time off to recuperate. It's refreshing to see that the people from
Projectleiding, the Safe Harbour, First Aid, and Cohesion, seem to be
sufficiently staffed so that those orga who need it, can get the care
and hugs that they need and deserve. And, there's a lot of peer support
within and across teams.
I should really go to bed now, but I really wanted to share with you,
especially those who are new to this, that we've somehow managed to
build an awesome event. Twitter is full of positive tweets about
#sha2017, and just a few complaints. Let's evaluate after the event, the
circumstances that lead to this success.
Regardless of miscommunication, fatigue, human and technical errors,
chaos, stress, and over 300 angels that had their badges scanned at LHQ,
I'm still happy anyway.
Thank you!
Juerd
